Are people who sleep in the fetal position tough on the outside and soft on the inside? Are they seeking comfort? According to a survey conducted by Robert Phipps, leading body language expert in the United Kingdom, the answer to both of these questions is yes. Phipps believes that a person’s sleep position says a lot about them. It can change depending on the type of day you’ve had or how much you worry. You may even go through multiple sleep positions during the night.
Phipps evaluated some of the most common sleep positions in his survey and determined what they say about how you’re feeling on any given night. He also offers tips for dealing with any associations that come along with your favorite sleep position. For example, if you sleep in the yearner position, then Phipps says you are your own worst critic. He suggests facing each day as a new opportunity to go after what you want with everything you have.
If you sleep with your arms straight by your side, you may want to loosen up. Sleeping like a log means you are stubborn and stuck in your ways, according to Phipps. He suggests relaxing and even stretching before bed, so you’ll be more flexible in your thinking when you wake up. If you feel like life happens out of your control and you are just hanging on for the ride, then Phipps estimates you sleep face down with your arms stretched out in a free-falling position.
